So many people have asked that I thought I would put together a list of my favorite kitchen appliances. I mention some of them in my recipes but am planning to collect more of them here. Here are the ones that I think make the biggest difference in my kitchen.
If you have a favorite piece of kitchen gear that makes your life easier, I would love to hear from you in the comments.
Without further ado, here is a list of my current favorites and tips.
Knives
Most any chef will tell you that the most important part of their kitchen is their set of knives. It’s one piece of equipment that chefs are most likely to travel with. My friends that are chefs recommend having a leather carrying case for traveling with your knives if you’ll be cooking in an unfamiliar kitchen.
Mixers
I recommend both a standing mixer (I currently use a KitchenAid), and an immersion blender. I use both of them all the time. The standing mixer is great for mixing doughs like pizza dough or bread dough, it saves you a ton of work (and time).
Non-stick skillet
Having a great non-stick skillet can make such a big difference in your life. Just like having a good mattress, it’s something that you shouldn’t skimp on. Non-stick skillets are known to degrade over time, but if you use it frequently like me it’s well worth the investment to get a quality one and upgrade frequently if food starts to stick.
Gas Grill
Don’t get me wrong, I love cooking over all types of flame and I totally appreciate the value of a true wood-fired oven or a charcoal grill. But for me, I grill so often that it just makes sense to have a gas grill there for everyday use. I currently have a smaller one which is actually great because it heats up quickly and gets up to a high temp. This is a great way to cook healthy meats (and vegetables) and do it fast.
